Celebrity Cruises has officially taken delivery of its newest and most innovative vessel, the Celebrity Xcel, marking a significant milestone for the cruise line and its parent company, Royal Caribbean Group. The fifth ship in the acclaimed Edge Series was handed over by the esteemed Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, on October 23, 2025. This grand arrival heralds a new chapter for premium cruising, featuring an array of guest-influenced designs and experiences, set to redefine the ‘resort at sea’ concept.
A New Benchmark in Premium Cruising
The arrival of Celebrity Xcel signifies more than just the addition of a new ship; it represents an evolution in how Celebrity Cruises designs and delivers guest experiences. Jason Liberty, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, stated that Celebrity Xcel embodies the company’s commitment to transforming premium travel through elevated design and experiences that deepen guests’ connections to destinations. The ship boasts a capacity of up to 3,260 guests, supported by a dedicated crew of 1,377, ensuring personalized service. Each Edge Series ship, including Xcel, has been built by Chantiers de l’Atlantique, fostering a strong partnership focused on innovation and excellence.
Innovations Shaped by the ‘Xcel Dream Makers’
Central to Celebrity Xcel’s design philosophy is the groundbreaking Xcel Dream Makers program. This initiative allowed thousands of travelers worldwide to contribute their ideas, directly influencing the ship’s culinary concepts, entertainment, design elements, and relaxation spaces. The result is a ship that truly incorporates guest preferences, featuring seven brand-new onboard experiences.
Among the most notable new spaces is The Bazaar, a vibrant, three-story destination experience that blurs the lines between ship and shore. It offers a dynamic environment with pop-up artisan markets, live entertainment, and two new culinary concepts: Mosaic and Spice Café, all designed to reflect the culture and flavors of the destinations visited. Another unique addition is Bora, a rooftop restaurant offering Mediterranean-inspired dishes with stunning ocean views, transitioning from a lively brunch spot to an atmospheric dinner venue. The ship also features Celebrity’s most expansive spa to date, including the brand’s first-ever Hydra Room for water-focused wellness experiences, and an outdoor Vitamin D Deck. For entertainment, guests can enjoy new theater productions with advanced effects, interactive shows, and a variety of themed parties and activities.
Setting Course for the Caribbean and Beyond
Celebrity Xcel commenced its inaugural season on November 14, 2025, sailing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Its initial seven-night itineraries will explore the Caribbean, visiting destinations such as The Bahamas, Mexico, the Cayman Islands, Puerto Plata, St. Thomas, and St. Maarten. Come Summer 2026, the ship will reposition to Europe, offering seven- to eleven-night Mediterranean itineraries from Barcelona and Athens, with new overnight stays planned in Madeira, Portugal.
The Future of the Edge Series: Introducing Celebrity Xcite
During the celebration of Celebrity Xcel’s delivery, Celebrity Cruises also marked the official start of construction for its next Edge Series vessel, Celebrity Xcite. The name and commencement of construction for this sixth Edge Series ship were revealed at a steel-cutting ceremony, signifying the continuation of the brand’s innovative legacy. Celebrity Xcite is slated to enter service in 2028, promising to further elevate the guest experience with the sophisticated design and unique offerings characteristic of the Edge Class.
With its guest-centric design, cutting-edge amenities, and commitment to delivering exceptional onboard entertainment and memorable voyages, Celebrity Xcel stands as a testament to Celebrity Cruises’ forward-thinking approach to the future of travel. Its launch is a significant piece of news for the cruise industry, reinforcing the brand’s dedication to luxury, innovation, and unparalleled guest satisfaction.
