A Celebration of Creole Music and Culture
The World Creole Music Festival, established in 1997, is designed to celebrate and promote the diverse musical genres and rich heritage of Creole-speaking countries. This year’s edition powerfully showcased Dominica’s unique blend of cadence-lypso, bouyon, and contemporary Creole music, amplifying the island’s creative spirit on a global stage. The festival serves as a vital platform for artists, allowing them to share their talent and connect with a diverse audience, reinforcing Dominica’s cultural identity and its position as a hub for Caribbean music.
A Diverse and Electrifying Lineup
Attendees were treated to an eclectic mix of musical talent, featuring both local Dominican artists and international stars. Other notable artists gracing stages at WCMF events include Popcaan, Beres Hammond, Machel Montano, Patrice Roberts, and Tiwa Savage, among many others, collectively spanning genres from reggae and zouk to soca and Afrobeats. This diverse programming ensures the festival appeals to a broad spectrum of music enthusiasts, contributing to its sustained popularity and regional draw.
A Foundation for Future Success
Dominica’s Tourism Minister, Denise Charles-Pemberton, expressed pride in the festival’s success, stating, “Dominicans welcomed the world, and the world responded. The success of our 25th anniversary festival reflects not just great planning but the passion, creativity and resilience of our people. The multiplier effect from this single weekend is being felt across every corner of the economy”. The Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) highlighted that the festival “exceeded all standards,” further solidifying its reputation as a cornerstone of Dominica’s cultural calendar and a significant economic driver for the Caribbean nation.
